STEPS Art Education Program for Children

 Highlights from the June 10, 2017 Artists Reception

  • Providing FREE art education classes to Prescott area children since 2011.
  • Adventures in art by art educators and professional artists
  • Activities that focus on learning and using the elements and principles of design and various media while exploring various cultures, art history and the environment
  • Learning experiences that enhance academic development, increase vocabulary and improve motor, social, engineering and creative problem solving skills
  • Tuition and art supplies included
  • Class sizes limited to 12 students
  • Classes are available to beginning and returning students ages 5 – 18. ( New students with art experience will also be considered for the advanced classes pending approval of the instructors

Complete 7 day attendance is crucial to the educational value of each class series so we ask that parent/ student schedules be thoroughly evaluated prior to registration

REGISTRATION FOR THE FALL CLASS SERIES IS NOW CLOSED ( The spring class series will be coming in April 2018)

The classes meet from August 14 – September 28. (Two classes for ages 5 -7, four classes for ages 8 -10, one class for ages 11-14 and one class for ages 14 -18) The classes are one day a week for seven weeks from 4:00 – 5:30 PM

MONDAYS

Learning to See- Drawing, Painting and Mixed Media for ages 5 – 7 with Sue Lutz
Topics include the elements of shape, drawing animals, painting skies, mask making, still life drawing, action figure drawing and painting/collage

DibbleDabble: Explorations in 2-D and 3-D Art for ages 8 – 10 with Jen Chandler
Topics include explorations in a variety of media including watercolor and acrylic painting, ceramics, printmaking and weaving with natural history themes at the core. 

TUESDAYS

Topics include explorations in a variety of media including watercolor and acrylic painting, ceramics, printmaking and weaving with natural history themes at the core

Mixed Media on the Right Side of the Brain for ages 11 -1 4 with Feliz Manzanedo
Topics include sun and linoleum printmaking, block out stencil collage, right brain exercises, lessons in value and tone that culminate into a self portrait series

WEDNESDAYS

Adventures with Mixed Media: Exploring Art in Fun and Wacky Ways for ages 8- 10 with Jan Fischer
Topics include Picasso masks, animal clay pots, bear collage, “sketching the world around us !”, painting from sketches and “City Scapes… Putting it in Perspective”

Mixed Media on the Right Side of the Brain for ages 14 – 18 with Feliz Manzanedo
Topics include sun and linoleum printmaking, block out stencil collage, right brain exercises, lessons in value and tone that culminate into a self portrait series

THURSDAYS

Adventures with Mixed Media: Exploring Art in Fun and Wacky Ways for ages 5 – 7  with Jan Fischer
Topics include “Finding the Bird in the Tree (mixed media collage) , dragonfly magnets, mini floral collage, clay wall pockets, fall leaf wall hangings (printmaking and collage) and “Warm and Very Cool Butterflies” (mixed media)

Art of Many Cultures for ages 8 – 10 with Sue Lutz
Topics include “Line and Value Scales with the German Expressionist Artist,  Kathe Kollwitz ” “Mask Making with the Art of Native America, Mexico, China and Africa”, “Japanese Fish Kites with Samarai Warriors”, “Wood Tiles with African Animal Designs”, “Landscapes with Vincent Van Gogh” and “Mexican Murals with Mexican Muralist Diego Rivera”
