STEPS Art Education Program for Children

  • Providing FREE art education classes to Prescott area children since 2011.
  • Adventures in art by art educators and professional artists
  • Activities that focus on learning and using the elements and principles of design and various media while exploring various cultures, art history and the environment
  • Learning experiences that enhance academic development, increase vocabulary and improve motor, social, engineering and creative problem solving skills
  • Tuition and art supplies included
  • Class sizes limited to 12 students
  • Classes are available to beginning and returning students ages 5 – 18. ( New students with art experience will also be considered for the advanced classes pending approval of the instructors

Complete 7 day attendance is crucial to the educational value of each class series so we ask that parent/ student schedules be thoroughly evaluated prior to registration

The next STEPS class series is  Monday April 2 – Thursday May 17, 2018.  Classes meet one day a week for seven weeks from 4:00 – 5:30. On line registration is available now. Class enrollment is first come first serve. Students will be placed on stand by in the order received.

Mondays

For ages 5 – 7 with Sue Lutz :  Starting with Sue’s original “Shape Song” , students will learn about the basic elements of art. Class projects include tie dye shirts, African masks, texture, landscape painting and an exercise in positive/negative space. THIS CLASS HAS 3 MORE SPACES AVAILABLE

For ages 8 – 10 with Jan Fischer: “Whacky and Wonderful Ways of Creating Art, Inspired by All Parts of Our Planet” Class projects include mixed media landscapes, a birds eye view of the earth, aboriginal 3- D art, Japanese block print fish kites and figure drawing THIS CLASS HAS 1  SPACE AVAILABLE

Tuesdays

For ages 5 -7 with Sue Lutz :   Starting with Sue’s original “Shape Song” , students will learn about the basic elements of art. For ages 8 – 10 with Melody McConaughy Beginning with exercises that encourage relaxation and creative expression students will be introduced to drawing, felting, art history and collage. Class projects include doodles, Mrs Brown’s Hand Henna, creations in felt, collage landscapes and Pointillism. THIS CLASS HAS FILLED. REGISTRATION WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR THE STANDBY LIST

Wednesdays

For ages 8 – 10 with Melody McConaughy Beginning with exercises that encourage relaxation and creative expression students will be introduced to drawing, felting, art history and collage. For ages 11 – 14 with Feliz Manzanedo Class projects include origami (Japanese paper folding sculpture), printmaking, T-shirt printing & stenciling and the ‘Random Pick” Art Project THIS CLASS HAS SIX MORE SPACES AVAILABLE

Thursdays
