Debra Sutherland Core:I began my artistic career early in life. Born into a family of artists, teachers and jewelers in Denver, Colorado. I won my first competition at the age of 17. After high school, I moved to California and attended Santa Monica College, where I studied drawing, painting, and design. Upon graduation, I gained experience in almost every facet of the art community. My experience, includes working as an art consultant, representing artists, fine art publishing and placing art in corporate collections, residential, and hospitality.
It finally came time to start painting again in the year 2000 doing commissions and more study in painting and drawing. Most recently I won a major competition at the University of Iowa for a Jackson Pollock inspired fashion piece.
In 2007 I began creating digital paintings for fabric design. Using a photograph of my paintings I begin to play with the image in a Photoshop program. The inspiration I get from my art is always changing and expansive.
::My art is about taking conventional ideas and going to a macro lens of the human eye to a micro level of a design and detail.
::Using patterns, shapes and layers of mediums and color to create textures and depth.
::All work is planned sketched out on the paper or canvas. Once the idea is laid out the creative process can begin for me.
::Influenced by nature, science, architecture, textiles and any material that exists in our natural world.
The finished piece is a joyful expression of what I feel and see in life…..
