“Nature’s Palette” Glasswork by Cindi Shaffer and Stone Sculpture by Arliss Newcomb
March 16 – May 14
4th Friday Art Walk reception with Cindi and Arliss March 24 5:00 – 7:00 PM
Cindi Shaffer grew up in San Antonio, Texas. As a child she learned to work with textiles under the tutelage of her mother, a trained seamstress, and her aunt, who owned a fabric store. A business career followed that did not include much time for art.
After moving to Prescott in 2000, Cindi began taking art classes at Yavapai College, all the while traveling yearly to take fused and cast glass classes to further her education in kiln-formed glass techniques. She loves learning and continues to take Master Classes in glass art from many well-known instructors. Cindi is now joined in her studio by her apprentice, Alison Heavirland, who is becoming quite a glass artist in her own right.
Kiln-formed glass is a fascinating, technical medium, an amazing transmitter of light, a “pieced” way of working that not surprisingly, for Cindi, harkens back to textile memories from childhood. Manipulating the properties of art glass to make work filled with beauty, depth and flowing color is a never-ending journey of joy for Cindi and Alison at Astral Glass Studio.
