Dannae Mahape
Dannae Mahape is a mother, wife, and full time artist-painter from the Hopi tribe. She is from the villages of Lower Munqapi and Bacavi, Arizona and from the Greasewood clan. Her paintings and wearable art incorporate contemporary modern trends and bright colors in creating one-of-a-kind pieces. As these bright colors are the base of her artwork, Hopi traditional designs and elements are the main focus of her pieces. She has a passion and focuses her art towards a matriarch approach, this depicts her childhood and the importance, value and empowerment of the Hopi women in her culture as they are a matriarchal society. Dannae’s paintings all tell a story of the beauty of encouragement by parents, grandparents, elders and includes the importance of social dances, ceremonies and traditions. Dannae’s artwork has been selected to Pathways Indigenous Arts Festival in Santa Fe, New Mexico including their Pathways Winter Market, Prescott Indian Art Market, the Hopi Arts and Cultural Festival in Flagstaff, Arizona. She is also a recognized artist with the Hopi Tribes, Taawaki Inn in Clarkdale, Arizona and will be a part of their upcoming Hopi Travel Guide book as a featured artist, along with showcasing her original paintings in the hotel and gallery. Dannae continues to create, build and establish her art in many spaces.
