Tracy Tohannie
Tracy Tohannie is a Navajo artist from Tonalea, a small place in Northern Arizona.
After high school, Tracy attended Yavapai College in Prescott, Arizona, and continued his education at Northern Arizona University, where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree.
Tracy has always been interested in the arts since childhood. He was first influenced by his older brothers and later began idolizing other more established local artists, like the late Baje Whitethorne Sr. and his siblings, who were all artisans.
Tracy likes to study and observe landscapes, people, animals, and so forth, which is very helpful in creating his paintings. His subject matter is derived from his late grandma and mother’s stories and what he’s seen and experienced as a child. Tracy says his purpose is to preserve his culture through his paintings for future generations.
