Piersten Doctor

Pushing my dynamic style through perspective poses that convey powerful movements and gestures, I, Piersten Doctor, an artist from the Dine Nation, aim to portray and understand my Indigenous stories. It is my hope to pass these narratives on to future generations, and I want them to feel a connection when they view my work. I strive to continually push my artistic boundaries by questioning existing norms and exploring new avenues for my art, all while respectfully honoring what we hold sacred and what we may choose to share.

I was born and raised in Arizona and am largely self-taught, having learned from my community in the heart of downtown Phoenix. I am proud to be associated with the only Indigenous-owned and operated store in Old Town Scottsdale, the Native Art Market. My work is now reaching international audiences through participation in the Tia Art Collection in Santa Fe and at the Fahrenheit Gallery. My aspiration is to continue surpassing my limits as an artist, embracing fine art while remaining rooted in my cultural heritage.

Regarding my clan, my maternal clan is Water’s Edge, and I was born for Bitter Water. My maternal grandfather belongs to Deer Spring, and my paternal grandfather is from the Red Streaking Water Ute lineage.
