Highlights from STEPS Young Artists Exhibit and Reception

 in the ‘Tis Annex Building 235 N. Marina St. Prescott, AZ 86301

  • Providing FREE art education classes to Prescott area children since 2011.
  • Adventures in art by art educators and practicing artists
  • Experiences that focus on learning and using the elements and principles of design and various media while exploring various cultures, art history and the environment
  • Activities that improve academic, motor, social, engineering and creative problem solving skills
  • FREE tuition and art supplies
  • Class sizes limited to 12 students
  • Classes are one day a week  for seven weeks from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday
  • Classes are available to beginning and returning students ages 5 – 18. ( New students with art experience will also be considered for the advanced classes pending approval of the instructors

Complete 7 day attendance is crucial to the educational value of each class series so we ask that parent/ student schedules be thoroughly evaluated prior to registration

The Spring 2017 Class Sessions ( April  3 – May 23, 2017)

On Line Registration for Spring 2017 Class series has closed.  Stay tuned. We’ll have more sets of classes in 2017.

  • Two summer classes: July 18 – July 26.  Classes meet from 10:00 – 11:30 AM on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the first week and Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday  the second week
  • Eight fall classes: August 14 – September 28. Classes meet from 4:00 – 5:30 PM one day a week for seven weeks

Mondays for Ages 5 – 7 with Melody McConaughy ART EXPLORATION PAST AND PRESENT Students will be introduced to : color, form ,texture, materials, balance and composition with an Art History component where famous artists will be discussed and used for reference material.

Mondays for Ages 8 – 10 with Jen Chandler EXPLORATIONS IN ART MAKING Do you love art but aren’t sure what you are good at? In this class we will explore artmaking from the perspective of: what’s around us, what inspires us, and what’s inside of us.  If you are interested in exploring a variety of art-making techniques and materials this class is for you!  In this class we will explore media including drawing, painting, ceramics, collage, and printmaking.  Explorations in Art Making is for beginning or repeat students and will broaden your art making abilities and creative sensibilities.

Tuesdays for Ages 8 – 10 with Jen Chandler EXPLORATIONS IN ART MAKING Do you love art but aren’t sure what you are good at? In this class we will explore art making from the perspective of: what’s around us, what inspires us, and what’s inside of us.  If you are interested in exploring a variety of art-making techniques and materials this class is for you!  In this class we will explore media including drawing, painting, ceramics, collage, and printmaking.  Explorations in Art Making is for beginning or repeat students and will broaden your art making abilities and creative sensibilities. 

Tuesdays for Ages 11- 14 with Feliz Manzanedo  ADVENTURES INTO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRAIN Students will be introduced to paper marbling, printmaking, self portrait/still life studies in pencil and with paint using exercises that stimulate right brained sight and thought. 

Wednesdays for Ages 5 – 7 with Melody McConaughy ART EXPLORATION PAST AND PRESENT Students will be introduced to : color, form ,texture, materials, balance and composition with an Art History component where famous artists will be discussed and used for reference material.

Wednesdays for Ages 8 – 10 with Sue Lutz DRAW AND PAINT USING VARIOUS MEDIA Sue will be teaching this class series using her signature “Twist of History” approuch where students will be introduced to the likes of Albert Durer, Paul Cezanne. Paul Klee, Georgis O’Keefe, Grant Wood, Frida Kahlo and George Bellows. Various media includes printmaking, pencil drawing, watercolor. tempera painting and pastels.

Thursdays for Ages 15 -18 with Elynn Colaiani  INTERMEDIATE DRAWING Do you love to doodle and draw? Are you a budding artist looking to advance your drawing skills and techniques? This drawing course is the perfect place to  Contour drawing, shading, gesture, perspective and self portraiture will all be explored as well as many different drawing mediums including, graphite, charcoal, pastels and more.
